On Friday, 27th February 2026, Thelma Ofori and Samuel Hanyor facilitated a knowledge-sharing session with staff and students from the Nutrition and Dietetics Department at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where they shared key insights from the CAPSTONE Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Epidemiology Short Course.
Both participants had recently taken part in the pilot NCD Epidemiology Short Course organised by the CAPSTONE Programme at the University of Ghana School of Public Health, Legon. The training brought together experts and participants to explore the growing burden of NCDs in Sub-Saharan Africa, with particular emphasis on the West African region. A key feature of the course was its challenge-based learning approach, which encouraged participants to develop practical and context-specific solutions to NCD-related challenges within their health facilities and communities.
The session at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital was highly interactive, with staff and students contributing perspectives from their professional experiences across different departments. Discussions emphasised the importance of strengthening research, education, and awareness of NCD risk factors as part of the broader effort to address the rising burden of NCDs in West Africa.
The knowledge-sharing session reflects the broader goal of the CAPSTONE programme to promote capacity building and facilitate the dissemination of knowledge across institutions and health professionals. Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to extend the learning from the course to colleagues and students within their professional networks.
